Feeling left out and lonely in hostels: seeking simple social invitations

Weekend pe dono roommates ghar chali gayi hain, aur group ka casual plan bhi ban gaya bina mujhe include kiye. Shayad jaan-bujhkar nahi tha, groups pehle se bane hue hain, but hostel room mein baithke lag raha hai sabke paas kahin na kahin jaane ko hai aur main decide kar rahi hoon akeli kya khaungi. Log pooch lete hain “okay ho?” but koi ye nahi poochta ki chai pe chalogi? Main bhi invitation ka wait karti rehti hoon, phir bura lagta hai ki kisi ko yaad nahi aayi. Message karungi aur mana kar diya toh room aur empty lagega. Bas ek normal conversation chahiye, koi emotional best-friend type plan nahi. Class ke kisi person ko chai ya short walk ke liye kaise poochte ho without making it awkward?

This feels very understandable. I recently congratulated a close med-school friend on her engagement, then felt awful afterward—as if everyone was moving ahead while I was still stuck in exams, hospital work, and uncertainty. So I understand why an empty room and a missed invitation can feel much bigger than one weekend. Asking one classmate, “Would you like to get tea or take a short walk sometime?” is not an overly intimate request; it can simply be one ordinary hour with someone. A refusal would not necessarily mean they do not want your company.
