Struggling to Reach Out for Simple Company Without Feeling Needy

I got back from a tiring day of classes and typed, “Are you free for ten minutes? I don’t need solutions,” to a friend, then just stared at it and didn’t send it. I don’t even know what I would say if they answered. I make asking for anything sound bigger than it is, and I keep thinking they’ll assume I’m being needy or vague. I don’t need rescuing. I just don’t want to spend the whole evening alone in my room with my own head. Apparently wanting someone’s company feels like it needs a serious enough reason.

Wanting company shouldn’t need a crisis or a perfect explanation, but asking can still feel like opening another performance report. I’d probably send something simpler later: “Want to sit or talk for a few minutes?”
