Struggling with Unreliable Calls in a Long-Distance Relationship

I’m tired of pretending one cancelled call doesn’t matter when it keeps happening. We’re long distance, so scheduled calls are not some extra thing for me. I arranged my evening around it, and they cancelled because something else came up without suggesting another time. I know they’re allowed to be busy. I’m not asking for constant availability. But somehow I’m always expected to just be there whenever they’re free, and I keep lowering the standard and still feel disappointed. I sent a direct message asking for one reliable weekly call and for us to make another plan when one gets cancelled. Now I’m worried I’ll sound needy or difficult, but I also can’t keep acting like this is fine. Should I keep asking for a concrete change, or stop arranging my life around them and see what they actually do?

That is a reasonable request, not neediness. Stop holding every evening open for an unconfirmed call, and see whether they actually make and keep another plan. Reassurance after being challenged is not the same as consistent effort.
