Struggling to Connect Beyond Daily Tasks and Childcare

Last night, after the baby was asleep, my spouse and I finished talking about rent, groceries, and the next childcare handoff, then sat on the couch on separate phones. I miss talking to my partner about something that isn’t a problem to solve. We did manage about ten phone-free minutes together, and it wasn’t romantic or anything, but it was the first time in weeks we were looking at each other instead of managing the next day. I’m tired of being the one who notices the distance and starts the conversation. I’m wondering if a small weekly check-in can actually become a habit.

Those ten phone-free minutes do matter, even if they did not feel romantic. A weekly check-in could become a habit, but only if both of you protect it—otherwise you are still carrying the work of noticing the distance and repairing it.
