Managing Dependence and Finances During Student Life and Placement Preparation

Today my PG deposit was due and my charger also stopped working, so I had to ask my parents to transfer extra money again. It was only normal expenses, but I still felt embarrassed. I’m grateful they help, obviously, but I keep comparing myself with friends who pay their own rent and wondering if I’ll still be this dependent after graduation. Placement preparation is already taking most of my time, so I can’t randomly take a side job and damage that. I’m trying to understand what small paid work a dependent student can realistically maintain—maybe one fixed technical task or a small monthly target, not some big hustle.

I relate to the feeling that one ordinary expense can suddenly make the whole month look financially unstable. My home-loan EMI was debited earlier than expected, while a transfer to my parent for a medical expense, rent, and utilities were still due. It made me realise that predictable cash flow matters more than squeezing in every possible source of income. For your situation, one recurring task with a fixed scope and payment—testing, documentation, tutoring, or maintenance—seems more useful than chasing a larger side hustle. What technical task could you repeat monthly without cutting into placement preparation?
